A study involving 237 people showed that 30-day BPF therapy at a dose of 500 or 1000 mg resulted in a significant (25 to 40%) reduction in LDL cholesterol levels, a reduction in triglycerides (30 to 40%) and significant (30 to 40%) reductions in triglycerides ( 20% to 40%) increases in HDL cholesterol.
These reports were then confirmed in a comparative study with rosuvastatin. It has been shown that 1000 mg of BPF reduces LDL cholesterol by 40%, which is comparable to the effect of rosuvastatin at a dose of 10 mg. The study also confirmed that taking BPF with a statin enhances its effect. When 1000 mg of BPF was added to 10 mg of rosuvastatin, LDL cholesterol was reduced by 53%. Besides the comprehensive effects on lipids, studies have also shown a beneficial effect of BPF on glycaemia.
